Dear EGF Members, The year of 2004 is well under way and there is less than three months to go until the European Go Congress in Tuchola. In fact the EGF financial year has ended and so has the Toyota-Pandanet Tour year. More on these below. The European Youth Championship is currently on in Germany and looks being very successful. We thank the organisers of that and also thank Romania for being very warm hosts of the European Pairs Championship and thank the Czechs for running a successful Ing Memorial. Report on the Pair Go is at: http://www.european-go.org/www/results/Pairs2004.htm 1. Notice of Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting of the EGF will be held on 30th July 2004 in Tuchola, Poland. All nominations for Executive (including sitting officers) and proposals for motions should be with the secretary by 30th May. Keep an eye on the executive's web page for updates: http://www.european-go.org/executive/news.htm 2. TOYOTA - IGS PANDANET EUROPEAN GO TOUR The fifth tour has been started and is again supported by TOYOTA and in an increased way by IGS PANDANET. This support now means that for most tournaments there will be broadcast of games live on IGS PANDANET. The calendar and results can be found at: http://www.european-go.org/toyotatour 3. TOSHIBA INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION For a second year Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) are supporting the European Go Congress, including the costs of Japanese professionals such as Catalin Taranu and Yuki Shigeno. For latest congress details see: http://egc2004.go.art.pl 4. TOURNAMENT CALENDAR We now have a self-posting European Tournament Calendar at a new site. Please tell your tournament organisers or the person in charge of your calendar to update the site with the events from your country. The list is moderated by Sven Ackermann from Germany, so there is a delay between submission and listing whilst he checks your entry. This will ensure the list will be accurate, but of course only as accurate as the information you, the members, provide. Please visit: http://www.go-tournaments.org 5. EUROPEAN CUP You are again reminded that any of your tournaments can be entered into the European Cup grand prix. Your regional tournaments can buy in at the 25 point level and international events at higher points levels. There are more than half a dozen events signed up already but we would like at least this number again to join. For details see: http://www.european-go.org/executive/EuropeanCup.htm 6. EGF BUDGET AND ACCOUNTS We are currently finishing the final touches to the accounts for 2003-2004 and have produced a draft budget for 2004-2005. These will be sent to you with a week or so. The budget includes increased spending in various areas, one of interest will be spending money on various special projects that have been brought to our attention this year. The new season of Ing Grants will be launched soon and revised submission dates will be published shortly on: http://www.european-go.org/executive/ing_grants.htm 7. PROFESSIONALS IN EUROPE Catalin has now returned to Romania to set up a Go Salon in Bucharest. He offers his services to any country that wish to hire his services, adding to the services already offered by Alexandr Dinerchtein, Yuki Shigeno and the other Go teachers such as Guo Juan and Cornel Burzo.
