TOYOTA TOUR WARSAW 2001

Report on the Toyota Tour Tournament
Warsaw, 23 - 24 June 2001

The tournament was held in Warsaw, on June 23-24, 2001 r. It was organised in a restaurant where local players meet every Monday in the evening. A part of the restaurant was rented for the players. There was a separate room outside the main part of the restaurant, for the strongest players.

76 players participated in the tournament. 71 players were pre-registered, but 14 players did not shown up. Instead, 19 other players played in the tournament.

The players came from 8 countries:
Poland - 52
Czech Republic - 8
Russia - 6
Hungary - 5
Romania - 2
Netherlands - 1
Great Britain - 1
China - 1

There were 29 dan players, including 18 4+ dan players. As the number of 4+ dan players was greater than 16 (in a 5 round tournament), a super-group was formed, according to the Toyota rules.

It was a 5-round McMahon tournament with 60 minutes per player and 30 seconds byo-yomi. Komi was 51.
Chief referee was Krzysztof Grabowski.

The tournament went very smoothly, with no incidents and no complaints.

The organisers found some sponsorship, so the prizes were much higher than the regular Toyota Tour prizes.

The first prize went to Vladimir Danek from Czech Republic, who earned 29 McMahon point.

Next two places went to Gheorge Burzo from Romania and Tibor Pocsai from Hungary - 28 points.
