From September 2016 to February 2017, six European players were handpicked to study go in China under the CEGO Academic Programme: the two professionals Ali Jabarin 1p and Mateusz Surma 1p; two players, Jonas Welticke 6d and Stanisław Frejlak 6d, who recently joined the realm of 6d players in order to qualify for the programme; and two youngsters, Vjacheslav Kajmin 4d (now 5d) and Oscar Vazquez 3d (now 4d), who promptly won the European U20 and U16 Youth Champion titles respectively after returning from Beijing.

Accompanying the European Youth Go Championship 2017 in Grenoble, the TIGGRE (Tournoi International de Go Grenoble) was held simultaneously from 18 to 19 February, also known as the 1st edition of the Ellie Cup. This tournament was sponsored by Hwang In-seong and the European Yonguseng Dojang and named after his newborn daughter.  Read more...

The preliminary rounds of the 13th Sankei Cup were played on 31 October and 2 November 2016.
This is the third time that the Kansai Ki-in invites foreign pros to play in the annual tournament sponsored by the Sankei newspaper. Europe was represented by the EGF pros Artem Kachanovskiy 1p and Mateusz Surma 1p.  Read more...
