The second edition of the Speed Go Championship, powered by Factorio, will start on the 1st of November!
After a successful edition last year, the Speed Go Championship is back, with live streaming every Sunday until February 2027. Rumour has it that the level will be incredibly high and it will be epic-thrilling.
This tournament brings together 16 top players (including two wild cards) -if you want to find out who is playing, you shall jump to the bottom of this article and click the “websiiiite” button. They will face each other in best-of-five matches in a knock-out bracket -same as before, if you want to find out….
The games have decreasing time settings, which makes it gradually more breathtaking and hard to review.
…Review? YES.
All the games will be commentated on live by strong players, and this year, the set-up has been the fruit of a long process and work, so that it provides the best (ever?) experience.
The event, including the facial distress of the players and their blunder facepalming, will be broadcast live on the EGF Twitch channel, and available afterwards as replays on Youtube (EGF and Speed Go Championship channels).
Last year, according to obscure statistics nobody can check, it is said that after each tournament which had the bad luck of ending on a Sunday, the closing ceremony was shortened.
Yeah, the tournament organiser had prepared a few drinks for all the players to celebrate the end of the tournament (which was really great!) but, we were a bit embarrassed because we had to be home on time to watch the Speed Go Championship and it felt rude to just leave, the closing ceremony was barely over. Turned out, the organiser was the first to say he had to go as his alarm was ringing on the phone to remind him of an upcoming fight between Lukas Podpera 7d and Stanislaw Frejlak 2p!

Of course, the organisers of the Speed Go Championship are very sorry if this happens and decline any responsibility for players leaving the venue early. The scheduled start time is 6 pm CET, which is often enough to be home or, if you play a far-away-from-home tournament, be able to follow on the way back.
We prepared a few statistics to make it more easy to understand.

If you are among the second category, you can find below our “great tips to follow the Speed Go Championship in various transportation modes”.

Depending on your location, you might want to use a VPN. We won’t help with this. Often, is it useful to have headphones or similar.
- If you’re in a bus or a car:
Make sure you’re not the driver. Then, try to get a stable connection. This can be done with a powerful phone operator/coverage contract or a special 4 or 5G hotspot, something like this. It might be best to give a bit of time to the “live” to advance so it is pre-loaded and the video runs smoothly.
Alternatively, if the video feed is really so slow, you can follow only the games and send messages to your friends who have a good connection to get a summary of what is being said.
If you are seated on the front seats and watch your favorite player, beware to have enough space and control not to hit the driver with an unfortunate “OH NO” move when the player you are rooting for plays self atari.
- If you are in a train:
Make sure you are comfortably seated (also run a quick unfortunate-move-space check) and make equally sure before anything that you can access a charging plug for your device (usually, if shared with a neighbor, it is good practice to be polite and anticipate, especially if your neighbor is also a Go player watching the Speed Go tournament with a device having a weak battery).
Using public Wi-Fi is often not recommended, so unless you are in a wonderful train, it is advised to switch to a lower quality, which is such a pity, but in general it works better.
- If you are in a plane
Some flights provide a free Wi-Fi but that is anyway dubious, so, let’s be honest, you will miss the show. So, as you will fly, we advise you imagine how the games will unfold and make a bet on who won what and how, and later compare with reality. If your hypothetical games look like the real ones, that’s incredibly odd and we want to see it.
Another option is simply to miss a show another Sunday and keep it for the flight, downloaded.
- If you go home by subway or walking
Look where you walk and what you seat on, don’t drop your phone (laptop is not a good idea), keep cool even if your favourite champion is losing.
- If you’re on a 2-tires thingy
Are you crazy? Go home and catch up then!

Now, let’s talk about the tournament in more details.
It is organized by Lukáš Podpěra 7d, who might win the event or be eliminated in the very first round, you will know only if you follow, co-organized by Ondřej Kruml 6d, who is madly giving his all to make the event incredible, and sponsored by Michal Kovařík 3d, creator of the game Factorio, which is making this event happen once more – huge thanks!
The idea emerged now three years ago from Czechia, and here we are now with a wonderful weekly show to admire the best and worst Go of the top European players.
The EGF is very happy to give space to the event and promote it widely, to the entire world, planet, and have hundreds and thousands of spectators admiring how it’s possible to read 45 moves in less than 3 seconds while at the same time committing 30 kyu level blunder in 4 seconds.
With all that said, we are eagerly waiting for you on Twitch on November 1st for the first match, which will be….decided soon, and directed (but not reviewed) live by Ondrej Kruml himself, together with a top player.
For all the precious information, how it is organised exactly, how much is at stake, what kind of line-up we have, and schedule of the upcoming matches, you’re invited to the Speed Go Championship website.
For cheering, you can use the commentaries section down here, or, later on, put likes and hearts on Facebook, Discord…
We hope you will enjoy!
Alright alright, we also put here the players, just in case. They are seeded by GoR (EGD Go Rating).
You will find the pairings and schedule on the website of the Championship, though!
