During the four days ending 2nd October 2005, the European Women's Goe Championship took place in Taucha near Leipzig in Germany. Michael Marz and the other organisers were happy and honoured to welcome 24 young ladies from nine countries: Hungary, Russia, Germany, Czech Republic, Lithuania, France, Belgium, Ukraine, Denmark. Unfortunately, although being registered, some players could not come (Italy, Serbia Montenegro, Romania). The players had plenty of teaching lessons from the Nihon Kiin professionals Haruyama Isamu, 9 dan, and Shigeno Yuki, 2 dan, and also from Svetlana Shikshina from the Korean Baduk Association. A handicap lightning tournament took place before the main event: Rita Pocsai from Hungary finished first ahead of Daniela Trinks (Germany) and Géraldine Paget (France). Rita topped her good performance from the lightning tournament by beating Svetlana Shikshina from Russia to became joint European Champion with Zhao Pei (Germany) and Svetlana. All the three of them finished with equal SOS and SODOS. So there were three European Champions! The organisers thought it was a pleasure to host this event and it was their feeling that all participants had a very good time.
