Both organiser teams improved their proposals in order to have a fair objective selection of the next congress place in 2017. Members can cast their vote from 10th to 19th December by email to the EGF secretary. Each country's vote will be weighted as it is done in the general assembly, small countries have 1 vote, countries with more members up to 4 votes.  Read more...

The feedback for the decision to give the congress to last year's organiser to hold it in Sochi in 2017 was quite a bit flooding the comment section here on the EGF webpage but of course not only here the decision was widely discussed! Now the organising teams of the russian and german go federation came together with the EGF president to find a solution to the difficult situation.  Read more...

Following the recommendation of the EGF board the turkish organizing committee stepped back last week. In the meantime the EGF board managed to find two alternatives one from Germany (Oberhof) and one from Russia (Sochi). The board decided to give the congress 2017 to Russia, Sochi  Read more...

The Nihon Ki-in (Japanese Go association) agreed with Deep Zen Go‘s programmer and its sponsor to set up a ‘three games match’ with the legendary Cho Chikun (9p) on 19th, 20th and 23rd November 2016. The games were very interesting, and it seems like Cho Chikun(9) knows how to play against Computer Go.  Read more...

The 19th International Tournament "Go to Innovation" was held this weekend, November 18th to 20th, in Berlin, Germany. Even though this tournament was small in regards to the number of participants, the prizes were big and mostly, it was very unusual and interesting competition.

The preliminary rounds of the 13th Sankei Cup were played on 31 October and 2 November 2016.
This is the third time that the Kansai Ki-in invites foreign pros to play in the annual tournament sponsored by the Sankei newspaper. Europe was represented by the EGF pros Artem Kachanovskiy 1p and Mateusz Surma 1p.  Read more...

The INDIS, a yearly qualification tournament to determine who may compete in the Dutch Championships, was won by Herman Hiddema 4d from Groningen.

On Saturday, October 22, the German and Ukrainian Go Youth played an online friendship tournament.
The idea to this tournament arose after a visit of Nataliia Rusanovska, mother of two go playing children from Kiev to a German go tournament where a contact to the German Go Federation was established. Instead of a classical team match, we decided to try out a new idea: playing a McMahon tournament with relatively short, children-friendly thinking time (20 minutes + 3x20 seconds). This reduced the organisation a lot, since we did not have to worry about missing kids: the pairing for the first round was simply made on the spot.  Read more...
